Rulewave

The warehouse management system (WMS) a global logistics operator runs on every day. We built it, wired it into SAP, DHL and the warehouse floor in real time, and have kept it in production since 2019. We've been this operator's partner since 2010, through hundreds of thousands of operations a year.

The project

The warehouse runs on it, so we treat it that way

From the first platform in 2010 to a WMS in daily production

Rulewave is a global logistics operator. Their warehouse, supplier deliveries and billing all move through one system. When it stalls, the operation stalls. In 2010 we launched the first version, RulewaveOnline, to put their supply chain in one place. By 2018 the business had outgrown it, so we rebuilt it from the ground up and put the current version into production in 2019.

The hard part was never the screens, it was the integrations. Orders, shipments, inventory and documents have to stay in sync with SAP in real time. The warehouse floor needs a scanner that matches the system to the shelf. Suppliers need to schedule their own deliveries. And every shipment has to hand off to DHL without anyone re-keying it. This is exactly the kind of integration work many teams would rather avoid.

We built a full WMS around that: real-time SAP sync, a scanner app for intake and dispatch, a supplier pickup tool, DHL integration, an invoicing and rates module, and KPI dashboards that show the operation at a glance. The architecture is flexible enough that we keep adding modules and applications as the business grows.

And we're still here. We've worked with Rulewave continuously since 2010, and have run the current system since 2019. It's not a launch-and-leave project but a long-term commitment: we pick up the phone when SAP changes an API or a new carrier comes in. Our team turnover is low, so the engineers who know the system are the ones still supporting it.

What the system actually does

It runs the whole warehouse flow in one place, from goods in to billing. The integrations come first, because that's where the operation lives or dies.
  • Real-time SAP integration

Orders, shipments, inventory and documents stay in sync with SAP as they happen, so the warehouse and the back office never drift apart.

  • Warehouse scanner app

Intake and dispatch are scanned on the floor and matched to the system in real time, cutting manual entry and errors.

  • Supplier pickup tool

Suppliers schedule and manage their own deliveries, so inbound flow doesn't hang on phone calls and spreadsheets.

  • DHL integration

Shipments hand off to DHL without re-keying, from label to tracking.

  • Invoicing and rates module

Billing and rate calculations are automated, including external invoicing for the Netherlands and the US.

  • Product database

A single source of truth for product data and stock, so everyone works off the same numbers.

  • Inbound / outbound deliveries

Every shipment in and out of the warehouse handled in one flow.

  • Warehouse management

Track product locations and stock levels across the whole warehouse.

  • Cycle count

Stock is verified continuously instead of in one disruptive annual count.

  • Label & document printing

Generate and print labels and shipping documents on the spot.

  • Document storage & file sharing

The paperwork tied to each shipment is stored and shared securely inside the system.

  • Automation

Repetitive tasks run themselves, cutting manual work and the errors that come with it.

  • Reports & KPI dashboards

The operation at a glance: throughput, accuracy, bottlenecks, plus custom reports.

  • User roles & permissions

    Controlled access, defined per role.

  • Advanced search

Find any product, order or document in seconds.

If your warehouse, SAP and carriers all hang on one system, you don't need a vendor who launches and leaves. Tell us what's slowing the operation down. We'll talk through the process before a line of code.
